U.S. Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, representing Florida's 25th district, took to social media to express her concerns on critical issues including Social Security and the conditions at immigration detention centers. Schultz, serving in Congress since 2005 and previously in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives, has been vocal in her opposition to recent Republican initiatives.
On April 15, 2025, Schultz criticized what she referred to as a Republican initiative, stating: "The Republican plan is simple: Steal from Social Security to give tax breaks to billionaires." She noted her commitment to countering this plan alongside House Democrats.
Subsequently, Schultz commented on issues within the Social Security administration. In a post on the same day, she detailed a delay experienced by her office, saying: "For 3 hours, my office waited on a Social Security help line until someone picked up." She attributed potential future delays to proposed office closures and workforce reductions by Donald Trump and Elon Musk, committing to join fellow Democrats in opposing such moves.
On April 16, 2025, Schultz shifted focus to the conditions at the Krome Detention Center. She described the circumstances as severe, declaring: "At the Krome Detention center, people are subjected to conditions that led to multiple deaths. It needs to end NOW." Schultz called for a restoration of oversight by the Department of Homeland Security, urging Secretary Noem to end the detainees' inhumane treatment.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz is currently serving in the U.S. Congress, representing Florida’s 25th district. She replaced previous U.S Congressman Peter Deutsch in 2005. Schultz graduated from the University of Florida in 1988 with a BA and currently resides in Weston, Florida.
