Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 25th district, recently shared her views on various political issues through a series of tweets. Wasserman Schultz has been an active political figure since 2005 when she succeeded Peter Deutsch in Congress, and previously served in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives.
On May 5, 2025, Rep. Wasserman Schultz expressed concern regarding the status of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans. She stated that she led efforts among Democrats to urge Secretary Noem to preserve TPS for Venezuelans but received a response indicating that “Dadas las condiciones actuales en Venezuela… el DHS tiene toda la intención de cancelar el TPS para Venezuela de 2023” “Todos los tepesianos pasan”.
Later on the same day, she criticized former President Donald Trump for actions affecting aviation safety. According to her tweet at 21:21:11 UTC, “Trump is breaking aviation safety, not fixing it.” She mentioned that DOGE had fired hundreds of FAA employees responsible for technical operations and support services and emphasized that “We cannot sacrifice safety to satisfy Elon Musk” .
On May 6, 2025, Wasserman Schultz announced the launch of a new bipartisan initiative aimed at children’s safety. In collaboration with other representatives including @RepBuddyCarter and @congressmanraja, she launched the Children’s Safety Caucus stating “Children’s safety has always been a top priority.” The caucus aims to enhance children’s safety through outreach, education, and initiatives .
Debbie Wasserman Schultz was born in Queens, New York in 1966 and currently resides in Weston. She graduated from the University of Florida in 1988 with a BA.
