Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 25th district, recently shared her concerns regarding the treatment of detainees at Krome Detention Center and international relations under former President Trump. Her statements, made on June 4, 2025, emphasize issues related to immigration policy and foreign affairs.
In her first tweet “I spoke out after conducting oversight at Krome Detention Center, where nearly half of people detained have NO criminal record.” posted at 14:48 UTC, Schultz criticized the policies leading to legal immigrants being subjected to poor conditions and potentially being sent back to authoritarian regimes. She highlighted that many detainees lack criminal records.
Later that day at 17:56 UTC, Schultz addressed international relations in a second tweet “Trump needs to wake up and stop playing footsie with Putin.” In this post, she urged for stronger support from America towards Ukraine against Russian aggression under Vladimir Putin’s leadership.
Concluding her statements on June 4th with a third tweet at 21:59 UTC “I did a recent spot inspection of ICE’s Krome detention center and found inhumane, overcrowded conditions.”, Schultz reiterated the inhumane conditions observed during her visit. She emphasized that almost half of those detained had no criminal background and had not received due process.
Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been serving in Congress since replacing Peter Deutsch in 2005. Before her congressional tenure, she served in both the Florida Senate and House of Representatives. A graduate of the University of Florida with a BA obtained in 1988, Schultz was born in Queens, New York, but currently resides in Weston.
