Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 25th district since 2005, recently expressed her views on social media regarding current political issues. The congresswoman, who has a long history in public service including previous roles in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives, shared her opinions on topics ranging from military deployment to gun violence.
On June 16, 2025, Rep. Wasserman Schultz criticized former President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles. She stated that “Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in LA inflames and divides, and distracts law enforcement from focusing on real criminals.” She argued that militarizing communities does not solve problems but rather creates them.
The following day, June 17, she reflected on the anniversary of a tragic event at Charleston’s Mother Emanuel Church. She tweeted about a violent incident that occurred ten years ago when nine lives were lost due to racial violence. She emphasized that “Hate has taken many more lives since, yet Republicans refuse to confront mass gun violence or even close a loophole that enabled this atrocity.” Her call to action was clear as she urged continued efforts to #EndGunViolence.
Later on June 17, Rep. Wasserman Schultz again addressed Trump’s actions with regard to military responses. She noted that “Trump’s costly military response wasn’t about safety.” Instead, she claimed it was an attempt to stoke fear and chaos. Highlighting her commitment to oversight responsibilities as a congresswoman alongside other members like Sen Alex Padilla who witnessed events firsthand, she asserted that “Members of Congress have a right to conduct oversight & demand answers.”
Debbie Wasserman Schultz continues her advocacy work from Weston where she resides after graduating from the University of Florida in 1988 with a BA.
