U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who represents Florida’s 25th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on January 17 and 18, 2026, highlighting her participation in community events and expressing concern over potential impacts to healthcare coverage for Florida families.
On January 17, Wasserman Schultz shared her experience commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., stating, “Proud to join so many Hollywood friends and neighbors to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It’s critical we never forget why he and Coretta insisted that America live up to its promise of true freedom and equality.”
Later that day, she recognized local advocates at an LGBTQ+ event, posting on January 17: “Wonderful to join My Hollywood Pride with @JHlwd74! I proudly presented Certificates of Congressional Recognition for all the fantastic work Spencer Battiest and Lisa Tumminello do to ensure love always wins in Florida.”
Addressing legislative issues on January 18, Wasserman Schultz commented on healthcare policy: “House Democrats fought to pass Affordable Care Act tax credits. If Senate Republicans fail to act, Florida families will suffer horribly.”
Wasserman Schultz has served in Congress since 2005 after replacing Peter Deutsch. She previously held positions in both the Florida Senate from 2000 to 2004 and the Florida House of Representatives from 1992 to 2000. Born in Queens, New York in 1966, she is currently a resident of Weston and graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in 1988.
