Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Florida’s 25th district since 2005, used her social media platform on September 25, 2025, to address concerns over recent Republican-led healthcare initiatives and renewed calls for transparency in government proceedings.
In a post published at 14:21 UTC, Wasserman Schultz announced an upcoming press conference focused on what she described as a healthcare crisis caused by Republican legislation. She wrote, “I’m holding a press conference to sound the alarm about the Republican healthcare crisis unleashed by the Big Ugly Bill, attacks on vaccines, and the refusal to extend healthcare tax credits in partisan GOP spending bills. Later that day at 19:18 UTC, she detailed the potential financial impact of these policies on American families. In her post she stated, “For a family of four who earns $64,000 a year, healthcare costs could rise by more than $2,500 annually if this GOP healthcare crisis continues. That’s unacceptable. Democrats will NOT accept a partisan Republican spending bill that continues to gut Americans’ healthcare.”
Wasserman Schultz also addressed issues of governmental transparency regarding high-profile legal cases. At 20:17 UTC she posted about former Labor Secretary Alex Acosta’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case: “Alex Acosta brokered a secret sweetheart deal to let Epstein off easy. He came to Congress for questioning—behind closed doors, again. We need real transparency to ensure this never happens again.”
Wasserman Schultz has represented Florida’s 25th District in Congress since replacing Peter Deutsch in 2005 and previously served in both chambers of Florida’s state legislature from 1992 through 2004. She was born in Queens, New York in 1966 and currently resides in Weston. The congresswoman is an alumna of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree earned in 1988.
