Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a seasoned U.S. Congress member representing Florida’s 25th district since 2005, has taken to social media to voice her concerns and celebrate achievements. Her recent tweets address significant political issues and local sports accomplishments.
On May 21, 2025, Wasserman Schultz shared her personal experience as a cancer survivor in response to a proposed budget cut by Republicans. She stated, “As a cancer survivor, I know what it’s like to wake up without knowing what your next scan will show. Republicans’ cruel budget guts the health care 1 in 10 cancer patients count on.” She emphasized the potential dire consequences of the bill by adding that “more cancer patients will die if this bill passes.”
Later that day, she celebrated a sporting achievement involving the Florida Gator Basketball team in Washington D.C. In her tweet from May 21, she expressed her gratitude and encouragement towards the team: “Wonderful to celebrate the Florida Gator Basketball Champions in DC! I thanked Clayton and our never-say-die Gator Boys for inspiring #GatorNation and urged Condon to stay @UF to run it back in ’26.”
In another political commentary posted on May 22, Wasserman Schultz criticized Republican actions regarding a bill impacting essential services. She tweeted, “As America slept, Republicans turned their back on our families and took up a bill that guts their food and health lifelines.” Highlighting an attempt at secrecy by stating they “tried to hide it in the dead of night,” she assured constituents that “history and all of America is watching.”
Wasserman Schultz has represented Florida’s 25th District since succeeding Peter Deutsch in 2005. Before serving in Congress, she was part of both the Florida Senate and House of Representatives.
