Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a U.S. Congress member representing Florida’s 25th district since 2005, recently addressed several legislative issues through her social media platform. Born in Queens, New York in 1966 and residing in Weston, she has been actively involved in politics for decades, previously serving in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives.
On June 5, 2025, Wasserman Schultz criticized the GOP’s Military Construction and Veterans Affairs bill by stating that it “fails our veterans.” She accused the bill of scamming veterans out of quality medical care while benefiting corporate hospitals financially. In response to this issue, she emphasized her leadership role within the Appropriations Committee’s subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs to safeguard essential services for veterans.
Later that day, Wasserman Schultz turned her attention to another piece of legislation. She argued that Republicans were neglecting the cost-of-living crisis as their Agriculture and FDA bill “cuts fruit and veggies for kids,” adversely affecting farmers while facilitating substantial corporate giveaways amidst rising food prices. She encouraged followers to watch the Democrats’ efforts to counter these measures.
In a subsequent post on June 5th, Wasserman Schultz addressed immigration policies under former President Trump. She claimed Trump sought to alter laws for increased deportation of legally residing individuals. Highlighting her opposition efforts in Congress and courtrooms, she noted leading an amicus brief with 54 House Democrats defending Temporary Protected Status (TPS). She vowed not to cease her fight against figures like Trump and Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
Wasserman Schultz is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree earned in 1988.
