Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 25th district since 2005, recently shared her concerns on social media regarding various issues. Her tweets addressed topics ranging from conditions at a detention center to academic leadership and legislative actions.

On June 3, 2025, Wasserman Schultz expressed her concern about the conditions at the Krome Detention Center. She stated, “Me preocupan las condiciones inhumanas y de hacinamiento que presencié en el Centro de Detención Krome.” She described the situation as one where nearly half of those detained had no criminal background and were living in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions with little privacy.

Later that day, she commented on a vote related to academic leadership in Florida. In her tweet, she questioned who would be willing to lead under current political circumstances: “Today’s vote begs the question: what top tier academic leader will subject themselves to the far-right fanatics running Tallahassee?” She expressed concern that placing unqualified partisans in leadership positions could hinder the University of Florida’s aspirations to become a leading public research university.

In another tweet on June 3, Wasserman Schultz addressed economic policy and accountability measures concerning Elon Musk’s activities with cryptocurrency DOGE. She asserted that Democrats would hold Musk accountable for his actions while criticizing a legislative proposal she referred to as the “Big Ugly Bill.” According to her post: “Democrats will bring accountability for Elon Musk’s reckless actions with DOGE.” She criticized the bill for its potential negative impacts on healthcare and nutrition assistance.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been an active voice in Congress since replacing Peter Deutsch in 2005. Prior to serving in Congress, she was part of both the Florida Senate and House of Representatives. Born in Queens, New York, she graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988.
