U.S. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who represents Florida’s 25th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on February 17, 2026, addressing issues ranging from civil rights to healthcare and child welfare.
In her first post of the day, Wasserman Schultz paid tribute to Rev. Jesse Jackson, stating: “Rev. Jesse Jackson was a civil rights icon who always fought for justice, shattering barriers along the way. His legacy is exemplified by his wise words, ‘Both tears and sweat are salty, but they render a different result. Tears will get you sympathy; sweat will get you change.'” (February 17, 2026).
Later that afternoon, she addressed concerns about the detention of an infant: “An innocent two month old should never have been detained in the first place. Now that he’s been hospitalized with bronchitis, it’s even more cruel to return him to captivity.” (February 17, 2026).
Wasserman Schultz also highlighted her ongoing efforts regarding healthcare access in Florida: “Healthcare is under attack and we must do all we can to defend it. I work with @_FACHC to ensure Florida gets the federal investments we need to care for vulnerable families, lower healthcare costs, and improve the services offered by our community health centers.” (February 17, 2026).
Wasserman Schultz has served in Congress since replacing Peter Deutsch in 2005 and previously held positions in both chambers of the Florida legislature from 1992 through 2004. She was born in Queens in 1966 and currently resides in Weston. A graduate of the University of Florida with a BA earned in 1988, she continues to focus on social justice and public health initiatives.
