The Broward Sheriff’s Office said Cira Quinones Lewis, 60, of North Lauderdale, was booked into the Paul Rein Detention Facility on May 12 with an immigration hold.

Lewis was booked after being arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol as the driver involved in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 westbound near Weston. Broward Sheriff’s Office inmate records listed charges of driving while license suspended, first offense, and failure to return a driver’s license or registration after insurance was canceled, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers have partnered with Border Patrol agents during traffic enforcement to identify and process people accused of violating federal immigration laws. The partnership has led to immigration-related arrests from traffic stops across Florida, according to WPTV.

Florida recorded about 64 immigration arrests per day in 2025, compared with about 20 per day the previous year. The Miami ICE field office led the nation in arrests during the period, according to WUSF.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office operates the county jail system and provides law enforcement and public safety services across Broward County. The agency processes bookings through detention facilities, including the Paul Rein Detention Facility, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
